An Indian migrant woman, Atulya Shekhar, was found dead in her flat on Saturday morning in the city of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This day was her 30th birthday and at the same time she was going to start the first day of her new job.
Atulya died in Rola area of Sharjah. His sister and brother -in -law, who live in Sharjah, have confirmed this tragic incident. Atulya was the mother of a 10 -year -old daughter. The incident has once again shocked the migrant community of Kerala living in UAE. The incident has come to light after a recent case in which a 32 -year -old Malayali woman and her 16 -month -old daughter were found dead in Sharjah. The police had described the case as a murder-suicide, in which the woman first killed the girl and then hanged. The incident was stated to be the result of domestic discord.
Husband accused of domestic violence
After Atuliya’s death, her husband has been accused of serious domestic violence. Atuliya’s parents, who live in Kollam district of Kerala, have filed a complaint against her husband. The person works as a civil engineer in Dubai. His family members living in Sharjah are also in the process of registering a case against the local police against the husband.
His brother -in -law said on Sunday, “We will contact the Sharjah police tomorrow to file a formal complaint. We are also taking help from the Indian Consulate.” Meanwhile, Dubai -based Indian Consulate said in a statement to Gulf News, we express deep condolences to Atulya Shekhar’s family. Our team is in touch with the family and the Sharjah administration and all possible assistance is being provided.
According to the family, Atulya and his daughter lived in Kerala earlier and they used to come to UAE to meet their husbands occasionally. She and her daughter have a UAE resident visa, but only a few months ago Atulya started living in Sharjah with her husband. His daughter still has her parents in India. Police is currently investigating the matter.
Husband cleaning and reverse allegations
Talking to Malayalam media, Atulya’s husband has denied any kind of involvement in his death, although he admitted that he had sometimes assaulted Atulya. He says that he was not at home at the time of the incident. He said, we have only one key, which he had. When I returned home, the door was found open and his body had cooled down.
He also alleged that Atulya had started staying far away from him for the last few months. She started sleeping in a separate room and in November 2023 she also had an abortion in Kerala, which did not even go to the husband.
