Fatima Nafees, mother of JNU student Najeeb Ahmed, on Tuesday accused the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Delhi Police of “negligence” in the case of their missing son and said that if she had to knock the Supreme Court’s door for justice, she would do so. Najeeb Ahmed went missing in 2016.
Her mother said in a post on Facebook that she would fight till her last breath.
A Delhi court on Monday allowed the CBI to close Ahmed’s case and said that the agency has tried “all options”.
The first year student Ahmed went missing from the Mahi-Mandvi hostel of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on 15 October 2016. He had a scuffle with some students associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) allegedly a night earlier.
The case was earlier investigated by the Delhi Police and later it was handed over to the CBI.
Nafees said that his fight is not only for his son, but for every mother who is demanding justice for her child. He said, “And if I had to go to the Supreme Court of this country, I will go there too.”
Nafees said in his post, “My Najeeb has gone missing (almost) nine years. But due to the negligence shown by the Delhi Police and CBI from day one, it has come today that the court has accepted the CBI case report.
He said, “Many times I ask myself how can I give up hope?” How can I let my courage break? After all, he is my son. I want my son back. If I have to go to every court of this country for this, then I will go. I will fight till my last breath. ”
The CBI stopped the investigation of the case in October 2018 as his efforts to find Ahmed did not get any result. The agency filed its ‘closure report’ after getting permission from the Delhi High Court.
Nafees’ counsel had earlier said that this is a “political matter” in which “CBI has bowed to the pressure of his bosses”.
The court accepted the ‘closure report’ of the CBI, but the agency was allowed to resume the investigation and inform the court on receiving any reliable information about Ahmed.
