Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Tuesday that the number of districts affected by Naxalism has come down from 12 to six. Shah said that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is creating a “strong, safe and prosperous India” by adopting a ruthless attitude towards Naxalism and untiring for all -round development.
He said that India is committed to uprooting Naxalism completely by 31 March 2026.
Shah wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “Taking a big step towards the creation of Naxal -free India, our country today has achieved a new achievement by reducing the number of the most affected districts from leftist extremism from 12 to six to just six.”
According to data from the Union Home Ministry, Left Wing Extremism (LWE) is the affected districts where Naxalite activities and violence are still going on.
LWE affected districts have been sub-classified as the ‘most affected districts’. This is a terminology brought in 2015. Apart from this, a sub -class is “such districts where there is concern”. This sub category was made in 2021.
According to the previous review, the ‘most affected districts’ were 12.
According to official records, there were 35 districts in 2015, 30 districts in 2018 and 25 districts in 2021.
