Earlier on Sunday, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway claimed that neither a train was delayed or canceled nor the platform of any train was changed on the night of the stampede. At the same time, the Delhi Police had said after a preliminary investigation into the stampede that the announcement of two trains called two trains caused confusion among the passengers and caused a stampede due to the disaster of reaching the platform. Whereas, several passengers had alleged that the change of train platform was announced at New Delhi station.

The situation is now under control at New Delhi railway station. A large number of RPF has been deployed here. Earlier, the railway has been stopping the sale of platform tickets at all stations in the capital including New Delhi railway station during Chhath Puja. The reason for this is earlier accidents. It is also reported that Sangam station in Prayagraj has also been closed by the Railways till 28 February. Prayagraj and other nearby stations are open. Also, seeing the crowd of passengers, more trains are being run for Prayagraj.
