Rameswaram. On Sunday, PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Pambon rail bridge between Mandapam and Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Ram Navami. PM Modi also flagged off a new train after inaugurating the bridge from Rameswaram. PM Modi also understood how the new Pamban bridge would be used to remove seapments. Earlier, a Pamban bridge was built between Mandapam to Rameswaram in 1914. Rail operations from the old Pamban bridge were closed. Now through the new Pamban bridge, pilgrims will then be able to go to Rameswaram by train from Mandapam.

The new Pamban bridge was approved by the Central Government in the year 2019. PM Modi had also laid the foundation stone of the new Pamban bridge. This bridge has been built at a cost of Rs 700 crore. A new Pamban bridge has been built at about 2.70 km between Mandapam and Rameswaram. Arrangements have been made to pass large ships from under this bridge. The new Pambon bridge is built from stainless steel. Also, anti -war paint has been done on the new Pamban bridge. The same rail tracks have been laid on the new Pamban bridge. If needed, the second rail tracks can also be laid on the Pambon bridge.
A new rail service has also been launched with the inauguration of the new Pamban bridge.
The middle part of the new Pamban bridge can be raised 17 meters up to the vessels. This is the first vertical lift rail bridge in India. Earlier there was a separate arrangement on the old Pamban bridge. In the British era, the old pambon bridge from iron was built. It was arranged like a door in the middle part. Two parts of the old Pamban bridge opened like a door to remove the ships. It was also taking time to open and close this part. Whereas, due to the vertical lift system in the new Pamban bridge, it will take less time to raise and lift it down while removing the ships. The new Pamban bridge will maintain rail traffic smooth for the next 100 years.
