The new Waqf law came into force from today.
The new Waqf law has come into force from today. The central government has also issued a notification regarding this. Explain that the Waqf Amendment Bill was first introduced in Lok Sabha and then Rajya Sabha. After it was near both places, President Draupadi Murmu signed the bill, after which this law has been made. At the same time, while issuing a notification, the Central Government has informed that this law has come into force in the whole country since today (8 April). On the other hand, a ruckus has also started about this. Most of the Muslim organizations of the country are constantly protesting against the Waqf law.
Regarding this bill, the government claimed that due to this, there will be a lot of help in bringing Sudhahar in the condition of poor and Pasmanda Muslims of the country and women of this community. It was passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, in which 288 members supported it and 232 members opposed it. At the same time, strict objections were expressed by the opposition parties, which termed the bill as ‘anti -Muslim’ and ‘unconstitutional’, while the government replied that this ‘historic reform’ would benefit the minority community. The Rajya Sabha approved the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025 with several important provisions including increasing transparency in the Waqf Board, after a long discussion by 128 votes against 95. After this, it became a law after the President’s approval.
Congress MP Mohammad Javed and AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday challenged the validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Supreme Court, saying it violates the constitutional provisions. Javed’s petition alleged that the bill makes provisions to impose “arbitrary sanctions” on Waqf properties and their management, which will weaken the religious autonomy of the Muslim community. The petition filed through advocate Anas Tanveer stated that the bill has discriminated against the Muslim community, as it “has been restored which are not present in other religious arrangements”. Owaisi’s petition was filed by advocate Lajfir Ahmed.
