New Delhi. There is now a new hope to save Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya from hanging. The Sunni religious leader of India Mufti Kanthapuram AP Abubakar Musalias has come forward in this matter. Abubakar, known as Grand Mufti of India, has appealed to the Yemen government not to hang Nimisha and interacted with the religious leaders there. Abubakar Muslim has contacted Yemen’s famous scholar Sheikh Habib Umar. On the insistence of scholar Sheikh Habib Omar, the family of the deceased Talal Abdo Mehdi agreed to talk.
Sheikh Habib’s representative Habib Abdurrahman Ali Famous had met the representative of the Yamani government in the northern Yemen, the supreme judge of the criminal court, the brother of Talal and the tribal leaders. Now talks are to be held today with the family members of Talal Abdo Mehdi. Sheikh Habib’s representative will try to convince Mehdi’s family to forgive Nimisha Priya and take blood money. Earlier, the family of the deceased Abdo Mehdi was not ready to talk to anyone in this regard. In this context, there is now a new hope that Nimisha may be protected from the death penalty.
Earlier yesterday, the Solicitor General of the Government of India had informed the Supreme Court that the Yemen government and the Sheikh there were interacted to stop the execution of Nimisha, but no assurance was received from there.
