New Delhi. Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya, convicted of the murder of Yemen in jail, seems to be weakening the hopes of protecting them from death. In fact, the Central Government has said in the Supreme Court that what could be done to a limit to save Nimisha was done. The Yemen government has also been requested to postpone the sentence but no concrete assurance was received. Now the only way to save Nimisha is that if the victim’s family is to take ‘blood money’, then her death sentence can be forgiven. This PIL was filed on behalf of an organization called Sev Nimisha Priya International Action Council, which was heard in the Supreme Court today.
The Attorney General said in India’s Supreme Court that it is unfortunate but there is not much in the hands of the government. We also talked to Sheikh of Yemen, but to no avail. The court asked whether an attempt could be made to talk to Yemen on blood money. The petitioner had requested the Supreme Court to direct the government for diplomatic intervention in the Nimisha case to save him from hanging. Nimisha Priya has been convicted for killing Yemen citizen Talal Abdo Mehdi and sentenced to death.
Nimisha is to be hanged after two days i.e. on 16 July. The petitioner had argued in the court that the Yemen court may have rejected Nimisha’s application but the path of blood money is still open. It was said on behalf of the petitioner that the government should talk about blood money from the royal level, we are also ready to give blood money. On the other hand, according to the news coming from Yemen, Talal Abdo Mehdi’s family is not ready to take blood money.
