New Delhi. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is going to present the Union Budget for the financial year 2025-2026 today. Nirmala Sitharaman will also make a new record. Nirmala Sitharaman is making a record of presenting the budget for 8 consecutive times. Earlier, Nirmala Sitharaman presented the full budget after the Lok Sabha elections. Whereas, before the Lok Sabha elections, Nirmala Sitharaman also put the last interim budget of the second term of the Modi government on the table of the Lok Sabha. The record of presenting the budget continuously before Nirmala Sitharaman was in the name of former PM Morarji Desai. Morarji Desai presented 6 consecutive budgets including 1 interim. Whereas, when Morarji Desai Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi were finance ministers in the governments, he gave 3 budget speeches.
Morarji Desai presented a total of 10 budgets. 6 of which were consecutive.
As Finance Minister, when Nirmala Sitharaman presented the budget for the sixth time in 2023, she equaled Morarji Desai’s record of presenting the budget. How many times we saw the data of presenting the budget on behalf of other finance ministers, Pranab Mukherjee presented 9 budgets as Finance Minister. At the same time, Yashwant Sinha, Yashwant Rao Chavan and CD Deshmukh presented 7-7 budgets, but they were not continuously. At the same time, TT Krishnamachari and Manmohan Singh presented 6-6 budgets including different years as Finance Minister. In 2019, PM Narendra Modi handed over Nirmala Sitharaman to the Finance Ministry. Prior to that she was taking charge of the Ministry of Defense. In view of the functioning of Nirmala Sitharaman as Finance Minister, PM Modi has also handed over the important department like Finance Ministry to him in his third term.

In the team which prepares the budget, there are more officers besides the Finance Secretary, Revenue Secretary, the Secretary who looks at the expense. The budget is now introduced in soft copy. The soft copy of the budget is prepared in a confidential manner in the Ministry of Finance. The employees engaged in this work are not allowed to meet their family members or someone else, even to talk. This happens to maintain the confidentiality of the budget. It is necessary for the government to pass the budget from the Lok Sabha. Which Rajya Sabha also approves. Like every time, the provision of budget 2025 will also be applicable from April 1.
