Nitin Gadkari gave relief from toll tax upto 20 KM: Now you will not have to pay toll tax for traveling up to 20 km on expressway and highway, Nitin Gadkari gave relief

New Delhi. The Union Road Transport Minister has announced relief from toll tax to car drivers. If you also have your own car and you have to travel on highways or expressways daily or often, then from now on you will not have to pay even a single rupee as toll tax for a journey of up to 20 kilometers. However, this benefit will be available only to private car drivers. Vehicles with taxi numbers will not get the benefit of this exemption. Another special thing in this is that to avail this facility, it is mandatory to have Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) installed in the car and it should be activated.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced important changes in the National Highway Fee Rules and has also issued a notification related to this. The notification issued by the ministry states that except for vehicles with national permit, if any other car travels 20 km on a highway or expressway, then toll tax will not be collected from it. Toll tax will be collected from the concerned vehicle if it travels a distance of more than 20 km. Earlier, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had talked about launching a new satellite-based toll collection system in July this year.

What is Global Navigation Satellite System?
The exact location of the vehicle is known through Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The satellite based toll collection system will work with the help of OBU i.e. on-board unit installed in the car. With the help of this OBU, the satellite will track the distance covered by the car through the cameras installed on the highway. The distance you have covered on the toll road will be tracked through this navigation system. You will not have to stop anywhere for toll, rather money will be deducted from your account based on the distance.
