No CNG Auto in Delhi: CNG -run auto will disappear from Delhi's roads!

New Delhi. The country’s capital Delhi is also identified with CNG Auto. Now this CNG auto may not be seen on the streets of Delhi in future. The Delhi government has drafted the electric vehicles (EV) 2.0 policy. It will be implemented on the approval of the Delhi government. CNG autos will not be registered from 15 August 2025 under the new EV policy. Also, the permit of the existing CNG auto will not be renewed. Instead, only electric autos will be approved to walk on the streets of Delhi. Delhi currently has 1 lakh CNG autos. Their number was fixed by the Supreme Court in November 2011.

The draft of the new EV vehicle policy states that the CNG auto, older than 10 years, will either be removed or the owners will be asked to convert it into electric autos. It is being said that this will improve the climate of Delhi. Apart from this, there is a provision to gradually remove petrol, diesel and CNG-powered vehicles used in garbage or other work under the new EV policy. All such vehicles will have to be used by electric -powered vehicles by 31 December 2027. The new policy states that registration of new petrol, diesel and CNG two wheelers will also be closed from 15 August 2026. At the same time, this deadline has been kept on August 15 this year for freight vehicles powered by petrol, diesel and CNG.

The draft of the new policy proposes that DTC and DIMTS buses will be kept electric. There is a provision to keep buses with BS-6 standard for other states. The new policy states that there will be no purchase of petrol, diesel or CNG buses for running in Delhi. This policy will also affect private cars. The draft of the new EV policy states that those who have 2 vehicles will be approved to buy only one electric vehicle. According to Delhi government officials, the draft is discussed. Also, some changes can be made in it. After which it will be kept in the Cabinet of Delhi government to pass it. The current EV policy ended on 31 March 2025. Which has been extended for 15 days.
