Mumbai Mahavikas Aghadi suffered a major setback in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. On one hand, we did not get power and now the situation is such that none of the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena or Sharad Pawar’s NCP, included in the Mahavikas Aghadi in the Maharashtra Assembly, will even get the status of Leader of the Opposition. To get the post of Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly, it is necessary to win 29 out of total 288 seats, but Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena-UBT has only 20 candidates in Mahavikas Aghadi. Congress and Sharad Pawar’s party are lagging even further behind. In Maharashtra, 16 Congress MLAs have won, while only 10 Sharad Pawar MLAs have been elected.
The BJP led grand alliance is going to form the government once again in Maharashtra. Mahayuti alliance has won 234 out of 288 seats. Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena has won 57 seats and the number of MLAs from Mahavikas Aghadi parties is less than this number of his party. At the same time, BJP has performed better in Mahayuti as compared to last time. In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections, BJP had won 105 seats. This time BJP has won 132 seats. At the same time, Ajit Pawar’s NCP has got 41 seats. Mahayuti has surprised political experts by bringing this tremendous result.
The tenure of the current Maharashtra Assembly is till 26 November. It is believed that by Tuesday, the Mahayuti under the leadership of BJP will decide the name of the new CM of Maharashtra. BJP has had a great performance this time and it is believed that Devendra Fadnavis can become the CM from its side. Devendra Fadnavis has been the CM of Maharashtra before also. However, Eknath Shinde, who single-handedly destroyed Mahavikas Aghadi, also has a claim for the post of CM of Maharashtra. Now it remains to be seen whether BJP once again surprises him by handing him the post of CM or not.
