Flight and rail services were disrupted in Delhi due to dense fog on Sunday morning. According to Indian Railways, 25 Delhi-bound trains are delayed due to fog in the national capital and parts of North India.
Some of the trains running late include Purushottam Superfast Express, Farakka Express, Anand Vihar Humsafar and Samastipur Superfast Express. Some flights were delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport due to cold wave in the national capital.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in the national capital was recorded at 12 degrees Celsius. Air quality in the national capital was recorded as ‘poor’. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, AQI was recorded at 284 in Delhi at 9 am today.
The IMD has issued a rain warning in the city, and there is also a possibility of thunderstorm and hailstorm during the day. Visuals from India Gate showed near-zero visibility in the national capital, with people taking shelter in night shelters in Safdarjung to escape the harsh weather.
Local people say that two meals a day and proper beds and blankets are being provided to the people living in night shelters.
According to the IMD, the national capital received light rain on January 11 and the temperature dropped to 7.7 degrees Celsius. Apart from this, many parts of North India remained shrouded in dense fog this morning.
Morning scenes in Jodhpur, Rajasthan showed the city wrapped in a blanket of fog. Due to cold wave in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, Taj Mahal was seen covered in a thin layer of fog. A group of elderly people were seen gathered around a bonfire in Kanpur.
As winter increased in North India, the cold wave continued in Srinagar, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Light rain occurred in some parts of Chandigarh today. There was a dense blanket of fog in Mumbai also.
