Announcement by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made an important announcement on Saturday, according to which now new applicants for Aadhar card in Assam will have to submit their National Citizen Register (NRC) Application Receipt Number (ARN). This step has been taken with the aim of ensuring the validity of citizenship in the state.
Reason for decision:
Chief Minister Sarma said that the number of applications being made for Aadhar card in the state has been found to be more than the total population of the state. This gave rise to the suspicion that there are many people in the state whose citizenship may be doubtful. This requirement has been implemented to solve this problem and identify legitimate citizens.
Who will get exemption:
Exemption for 9.55 lakh people: The Chief Minister clarified that the 9.55 lakh people whose biometrics have already been recorded during the NRC process will be exempted from this new rule.
Crackdown on foreigners: Sarma also said that the aim of this process is to control illegal foreign nationals. In the last two months, many illegal foreign nationals have been caught, who were living in the state without valid documents.
Purpose of the New Testament:
The main objective of this new rule is to make the process of getting Aadhar card in Assam more secure and transparent. It will ensure that only those people can get Aadhar card who are genuine Indian citizens. This will not only solve citizenship related problems but strict action can also be taken against people living illegally in the state.
