New Delhi. Jagdeep Dhankhar suddenly resigned from the post of Vice President on the night of 21 July 2025. Since then, the post of Vice President is still vacant. The Election Commission has also started the process of Vice Presidential election. The Election Commission has appointed Rajya Sabha General Secretary PC Modi as a returning officer for the Vice Presidential election. It is believed that the Vice President will be elected in September. Prior to this, the discussion of the number game is also in full swing. It is being discussed whether the BJP will be able to make any of its members the Vice President or the opposition will be heavy? So let’s see which of the NDA and the opposition, including the BJP, have numbers to win the Vice Presidential candidate.
In the President’s election, MLAs from all the states except Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha vote. At the same time, only MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha participate in the Vice Presidential election. Currently, there are 293 MPs in the Lok Sabha, including the remaining parties of BJP and NDA. At the same time, the opposition in the Lok Sabha has 234 MPs. The number of NDA MPs in the Rajya Sabha is around 130. The number of opposition MPs here is only 79. If we look at the total number of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs, the NDA has 423 MPs. Whereas, 392 out of total 782 MPs of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are required for the Vice Presidential elections. In this way, the BJP -led NDA candidate will easily win the Vice President’s election.
The opposition Indie alliance has decided that it will field its candidate in the Vice Presidential election. At the same time, there is every possibility of fielding its candidate from the BJP. Jagdeep Dhankhar was also made NDA candidates from BJP. However, at that time the BJP had a tremendous majority of 303 in the Lok Sabha. Whereas, only 240 members of BJP were elected in the last Lok Sabha election. In such a situation, it is also being speculated that JDU Chief Nitish Kumar and Telugu Desam Supremo Chandrababu Naidu, who are running the central government in the Vice Presidential elections, do not put any kind of pressure! In such a situation, everyone is eyeing that who makes candidates involved in the government for the Vice Presidential election?
