New Delhi. The Chief Minister of Delhi has written a letter to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav demanding changing the name of Old Delhi railway station. The CM has proposed that Old Delhi railway station should be named after Maharaja Agrasen. Maharaja Agrasen is considered a symbol of social service, and justice. In such a situation, Old Delhi railway station should be named ‘Maharaja Agrasen Railway Station’ in his honor. CM wrote this letter on 19 June which has now become public. However, no statement has been issued by the Railways in this case.

Old Delhi railway station is one of the largest and busy stations in the capital. A large number of passengers come daily from here. However, this is not the first time that the demand to change the name of a railway station has been raised. Earlier, the names of many railway stations of UP have also changed. Mughalsarai railway station, one of the busiest stations in eastern Uttar Pradesh, has been renamed Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Junction. Similarly, the name of Jhansi railway station has now become Veerangana Laxmibai railway station.

Last year, the names of 8 railway stations in Amethi district were changed in 2024. Kashimpur Halt has been named Jais City. Similarly, Jais has been named Guru Gorakhnath Dham. Apart from these, Nihalgarh is known as Maharaja Bijli Pasi, Mishrauli as Maa Kalikan Dham, Bani Railway Station Swami Paramhansa, Akbarganj as Maa Ahorwa Bhavani Dham, Wazirganj Halt is known as Amar Shaheed Bhale Sultan and Fursatganj as Tapeshwarnath Dham. All these railway stations come under Lucknow division and their name was raised by former Amethi MP and former Union Minister Smriti Irani.
