New Delhi: Newly elected Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday. According to reports, during his meeting with Shah, Abdullah discussed issues related to Jammu and Kashmir, including the issue of early restoration of statehood. Abdullah, who reached Delhi for the first time after taking over as the CM of the state last week, held a meeting with the Home Minister for about 30 minutes. Abdullah later said that it was a courtesy call, during which he apprised the Union Home Minister about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and also discussed the issue of restoration of statehood.

It is being told that during his stay in Delhi, Omar Abdullah will meet many Union Ministers and there is a possibility that he may also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Abdullah, who led his party National Conference to a landslide victory in the assembly elections, has vacated the Budgam seat and will continue to be the MLA from Ganderbal constituency. Let us tell you that Abdullah had won both the seats in the recently held assembly elections. Ganderbal seat is considered the stronghold of Abdullah family. Abdullah was the MLA from Ganderbal from 2009 to 2014 during his first term as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. With this, the number of NC MLAs has reduced to 41 in the 95-member House, although the party still has the majority with the support of 6 Congress MLAs, 5 independents and one MLA each from Aam Aadmi Party and CPI(M).
