Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Tuesday that the decision to change the name of 11 places in four districts of the state is based on culture and feelings of the local people.
Talking to ANI, CM said, “The names of places should be according to culture, feelings of local people and Devbhoomi. People have welcomed the move.” The state government has also expressed happiness over this decision of the state government.
Local resident Vipin Devyani said that he is very happy with this decision, and he further said that the earlier name did not have any meaning. “We are very happy with the government’s decision to change the name of these places … It is a Hindu -dominated area and earlier there was no meaning of this name. We appreciate the government’s decision and want to thank them for changing the name.”
On Monday, Uttarakhand CM Dhami announced to change the names of various places in Haridwar, Dehradun, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts of the state.
He announced that the work of changing the name is being done in accordance with public sentiment and Indian culture and heritage. According to the official statement, the objective of this initiative is to inspire people by honoring the great personalities contributing to the conservation of Indian culture. It has been said that the name of Nawabi Road in Nainital district will be renamed Atal Marg and the road from Panckank to ITI will be renamed Guru Golwalkar Marg.
