New Delhi. Home Minister Amit Shah, who reached Jodhpur on the occasion of 60th Foundation Day of BSF, made an important announcement for the security of the country. He said that India will soon prepare a comprehensive anti-drone unit, which will help in securing the country’s borders. Shah also said that the threat of drones is going to become more serious in the coming days, especially on the border with Pakistan.
Successful testing of laser based anti-drone technology
Shah said that the initial results of the laser equipped anti-drone gun-mounted system have been very encouraging. This technology has increased the incidence of neutralization and detection of drones in Punjab from 3 percent to 55 percent. “Smuggling of arms and drugs through drones has become a major threat, and the government is working closely with defense research organizations and DRDO to stop it,” the Home Minister said.

More than 260 drones were shot down or recovered
According to official data, more than 260 drones have been shot down or recovered on the border with Pakistan this year, while the number was 110 in 2023. Maximum incidents have occurred in Punjab, whereas such incidents have been relatively less in Rajasthan and Jammu.
CIBMS to increase surveillance on borders
Amit Shah said that work is going on on the Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CIBMS) to secure the borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. This technology has been tested in the Dhubri region of Assam, where encouraging results have been seen on the river border. However, Shah also stressed the need for further reforms in the system.
Development of marginal villages through Vibrant Village Program
The Home Minister said that the Vibrant Village Program (VVP) of the Modi government is a big step to improve the standard of living of the people living in the border areas. Under this programme, connectivity, health facilities, employment opportunities and other basic facilities are being provided in the marginal villages of North India. He said, “This program is proving effective in stopping migration. At present it has been implemented in 3,000 villages, but soon it will be expanded to all border villages.”

Rs 48,000 crore fund allocated
Shah said that the central government has approved a budget of Rs 48,000 crore to increase the security of the borders. This amount will be used to strengthen border fencing, roads and other logistics facilities. Praising the BSF jawans, the Home Minister said that they are not only protecting the borders of the country but are also contributing in maintaining internal peace. He assured that the Central Government is committed to strengthening border security in every possible way.
