Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the efforts of US President Donald Trump to end the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia and emphasized that the solution of the struggle could not be discovered in the battlefield and the talks and diplomacy for peace and the only dialogue for peace is the way.
After a conversation with Trump on Thursday (Friday) at the official residence and office of the US President’s official residence and office ‘White House’, Modi said that India has not been neutral in the matter of war and is in favor of peace.
At a joint press conference with Trump, Modi said, “I have always been in close contact with Russia and Ukraine. I have met leaders of both countries. The world feels that India is neutral but I want to repeat that India has not been neutral.
He said, “India has actually been in favor of peace.” He said, “I support Donald Trump’s efforts towards finding a possible solution to end the war.”
Modi referred to his message to Russian President Vladimir Putin in which he told Putin that this is not the ‘era of war’.
The Prime Minister said, “When I met President Putin, I even said that” this is not the era of war “. I also said that solutions could not be found in the battlefield. The solution can be found only when all the parties come to the conversation table. ”
He said, “India believes that the resolution of war can be found only if the issue is discussed on a platform where both countries (Russia and Ukraine) are present.”
Trump said on Wednesday that he had a long and meaningful conversation with Putin and he agreed to move forward towards negotiating to end the war.
The US President even said that he and Putin “agreed to start an immediate conversation by their respective teams”.
India has always been insisting on resolving Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.
In a summit with Putin in Russia’s capital Moscow on July 9 last year, Modi told the Russian leader that the solution to the Ukraine struggle is not possible in the battlefield and the efforts of peace between bombs and bullets are not successful.
A few weeks later he went to Ukraine. In his talks with Ukraine President Volodimir Jailonski, Modi said that both Ukraine and Russia should sit together without wasting time to end the war. He said that India is ready to play a “active role” towards restoring peace in the region.
