US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently said in the context of the ongoing peace talks between Russia and Ukraine that the two countries would have to compromise to reach the peace agreement. His statement came at a time when Russia has conditioned the Donbas region from Ukraine, which was already rejected by Ukrainian President Volodimir Jailonsky.
Rubio also clarified that if the talks do not progress quickly, the US can withdraw from these talks. He said, “We will now have to find out if it is possible in a short term, because if not, we will just move forward.”
Earlier, US President Donald Trump, along with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, had conditioned the handing over from Ukraine to Donbas region at a summit, which Ukraine rejected. Trump said that he is in favor of a direct peace agreement to end the war, while European leaders are emphasizing Ukraine’s sovereignty and justified solutions.
Meanwhile, Russia has said that some progress has been made in peace talks, but still many complex discussions remain.
This situation is challenging for Ukraine, as it has to protect its sovereignty, while Russia is pressurizing to achieve its goals. The role of America can be important in the resolution of this conflict, but it will depend on how many sides are ready for the agreement.
