New Delhi. ‘One Nation One Election’ bill is also in the list of important tasks of PM Narendra Modi. This bill was also approved by the Modi cabinet yesterday. The One Nation One Election Bill was to be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Now the introduction of One Nation One Election Bill has been removed from the agenda of Lok Sabha on Monday. However, the government can present it even after the remaining business of the House is over. The current winter session of Parliament is to continue till December 20 only. In such a situation, the government has only 5 days in this session to present the One Nation One Election Bill.
Sources had earlier told that after presenting the One Nation One Election bill, it is to be sent to the JPC of the Parliament. Modi government wants to pass the One Nation One Election bill by creating consensus among all the parties. Opposition also have MPs in JPC. In such a situation, there is a possibility of forming a consensus after an in-depth discussion on the One Nation One Election Bill. However, the opposition is protesting, calling it a loss to democracy and a benefit to the ruling government at the Centre. The opposition is also raising the question that if a government falls at the Center or in any state, then how will the governance system run if the One Nation One Election law is enacted?
The Modi government had formed a committee under the chairmanship of former President Ramnath Kovind to give suggestions on One Nation One Election. The committee had submitted its report to President Draupadi Murmu in March this year. After this, the Modi cabinet had given green signal to the report related to One Nation One Election. One Nation One Election Committee has recommended holding simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha as well as all the state assemblies. A recommendation has also been made in the One Nation One Election report to hold elections for all the bodies across the country simultaneously within 100 days of these elections. Let us tell you that till the year 1967, along with the Lok Sabha, assembly elections were also being held simultaneously in the country.
