The recommendations state that elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies should be held simultaneously. The Ramnath Kovind Committee has also recommended holding elections for all civic bodies in the country within 100 days of these elections.
Till 1967, Lok Sabha and Assembly elections were held simultaneously in the country. In the years 1968 and 1969, the governments of some states collapsed mid-term. Apart from this, the sequence of fall of governments was also seen at the Center after the 1980s. Due to this, elections for Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies started being held separately. PM Modi says that One Nation One Election will save time and will also cost less money. PM Modi and Ramnath Kovind Committee have also described One Nation One Election as important for the development of the country.
