Supporting an election (ONO) initiative one nation, senior BJP leader and former Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra has said that this will not only reduce election expenses, but will open new avenues and will also speed up the development of the country.
Addressing a program at the Constitution Club in the national capital on Friday evening, Mishra said that the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections were held simultaneously until 1967 in independent India since 1952 elections, as everyone was in support of holding elections together, whether it is the then ruling Congress or communist parties.
The former Union Minister said, “Everyone supported it beyond political affiliation, whether it is the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru or Communist leader.”
Mishra said, “It broke because some new states were formed and their assembly elections were held … Then the ruling Congress dismissed Article 356 and dismissed the opposition -ruled state governments; General elections were held ahead of time in 1972 … The tenure of the Lok Sabha was extended to 6 years during the Emergency …”, who was the Governor of Rajasthan from 2019 to 2024.
Elections and public power will be reduced significantly due to simultaneous elections in the entire country. This is not about any political party, ONOE “is necessary for the development of the country,” he insisted. Mishra said that it is completely “conforming to the Constitution” and opposition parties should be asked which schedule of the constitution stops ONOE.
The 129th Constitution Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in December last year for holding national and assembly elections simultaneously. It was later sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee. The Modi government formed a high -level committee to hold elections simultaneously under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind, which in March last year submitted a report of 18,000 pages to President Draupadi Murmu.
Earlier, the former Governor on Thursday condoled those killed in an Air India aircraft going to London in Ahmedabad. He also recalled former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who died in this deadly accident.
The Boeing 787-8 aircraft consisted of 242 passengers and crew members, including 169 Indian citizens, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese citizens and a Canadian citizen.
