The tension between Iran and Israel has increased further after the US bombing three nuclear sites in Iran. In such a situation, India took out more than 300 more Indian citizens from Iran on Sunday. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that 311 Indians reached Delhi by special flight from Iranian city of Mashhad.
The total number of people brought back from Iran is now 1,428, with the new batch of those withdrawn. Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that 311 Indian citizens reached New Delhi by special flight from Mashhad on June 22 at 4.30 pm.
He said that a total of 1,428 Indian citizens have been expelled from Iran so far.
India started Operation Sindhu last week to bring back Indians from there in view of the increasing enmity between Iran and Israel.
Since the onset of enmity over a week ago, Israel and Iran have fired hundreds of missiles and drones at each other’s cities and military and strategic installations.
The tension increased significantly after the US bombing three major nuclear sites in Iran on Sunday morning.
India has evacuated its citizens from Wednesday through chartered flights operated from the Iranian city of Mashhad, Armenian capital Yerevan and Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan.
Iran on Friday lifted the ban on airspace to facilitate three chartered flights from Mashhad. The first flight reached New Delhi late Friday with 290 Indians, and the second flight reached the national capital on Saturday afternoon with 310 Indians.
On Thursday, another flight came from Armenian capital Jerevan. On Saturday morning, a special withdrawal flight from Ashgabat landed in New Delhi.
