Another special flight regarding 282 Indian citizens stranded in Iran landed in New Delhi on Wednesday, causing the total number of people drawn under Operation Indus to 2,858.
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a post on 15 December, “282 Indian citizens were evacuated from Iran from a special flight from Mashhad to New Delhi on June 25 at 00:01 pm. With this, 2858 Indian citizens have been brought home from Iran.”
The campaign was started amid growing conflict between Iran and Israel, which had previously prevails in the region for the last few weeks before the ceasefire agreed on the ceasefire.
On reaching the national capital, the evacuated people expressed relief and gratitude to the Government of India and the Indian Embassy in Iran for their safe withdrawal.
The appreciation of the efforts of the Indian Embassy was a common thing among those who returned, one person said, “I feel good. I thank God that I am here now. I am grateful to him for the good conduct of the Indian Embassy there. I am grateful to this (Indian) government.”
Earlier on Tuesday, three Sri Lankan with 281 Indian citizens stranded in Iran and another special flight with two Nepali citizens reached New Delhi safely.
Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margerita welcomed the people out.
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a post on X, “Update: Under Operation Sindhu, Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margerita warmly welcomed 281 Indians, 3 Sri Lankan and 2 Nepali citizens from Iran. They have reached New Delhi by special flight from Mashhad on June 24 at 3 pm
Talking to reporters, the Minister of State said that the Government of India is committed to providing assistance to the needy people and has also provided help to neighboring countries like Nepal and Sri Lanka.
