When tension between Iran and Israel increased and the situation began to turn towards war, the Indian government took a big step, giving priority to the safety of its citizens. The Ministry of External Affairs has initiated the process of evacuating Indian citizens trapped in Iran and now Israel under ‘Operation Indus’. Under this campaign, those Indians who went to Iran and Israel in connection with studies, jobs or businesses and are now feeling insecure due to the ongoing struggle there.
The first phase of Operation Sindhu began when the situation deteriorated rapidly after the Israeli attacks on Iran. After bombing and missile attacks in Tehran, Tabrez and other cities, the Government of India decided to evacuate its citizens, especially medical students, especially medical students. About 110 students were taken by road to Yerwan, the capital of Armenia, from where they were brought to India by special aircraft. After this successful withdrawal, now Mea has made it clear that similar help will be given to Indians living and returning in Israel.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that the withdrawal is being done only for those who want to return voluntarily. For this, the government has started registration facility through special helpline and embassies. A large number of Indian citizens in Israel are in cities like Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem. The government has alerted the local embassies and directed the citizens present there to provide all possible help. The journey is being planned in such a way that first people will be transported to safe zones like Jordan, Egypt or Cyprus by land or sea route, after which they will be brought to India by special aircraft.
In this entire process, the Indian Air Force and the Navy have also been prepared so that fast action can be taken if needed. A senior official said that the government is constantly monitoring the situation and is taking updates every hour. A spokesman for Mea said that no Indian citizen needs to panic, the government is with them.
Operation Sindhu is another example of India’s efforts in which it has played a leading role in evacuating its citizens in the hour of war and crisis. Earlier, India had carried out successful clearance campaigns during the Ukraine crisis, the capture of the Taliban in Afghanistan and the Sudan crisis. Like every time, this time too, India has made it clear that even if there is a crisis in any corner of the world, the safety of Indian citizens is paramount for it.
India’s move internationally makes its image stronger that it is not only responsible for its citizens but is capable of making decisions and implementing them even in complex diplomatic conditions. Operation Sindhu is not only a relief task but it is also a symbol of the trust that a citizen puts on his country – whenever the crisis comes, his country will stand with him.
