Leaders of opposition parties will submit a signed letter on the impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Verma to the Lok Sabha Speaker at 2 pm on Monday.
According to sources, more than 100 members of Parliament have signed the draft impeachment motion, which will be brought against Justice Yashwant Verma in Parliament.
Earlier on Sunday, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had said that signature of more than 100 MPs has been collected against Justice Verma for the impeachment process. Justice Verma has been in crisis since receiving burnt cash at his residence.
In response to a question asked about the status of the expected signatures of MPs for the impeachment process against Justice Verma, Rijiju said, “The work of signature (collection) is going on and it has exceeded 100.”
Asked if Parliament would consider the issue in this monsoon session starting on July 21, the Union Minister said, “In the Justice Verma case, all the parties will join the process together. It is not the government’s step alone.” He said, “I cannot comment on any business on priority until the case is difficult to be passed by the BAC (business advisory committee).”
He said, “I cannot comment on any business on priority basis until the case is passed by the BAC (Vocational Advisory Committee) with the Chairman’s acceptance. It is difficult to make any announcement outside.”
Earlier, Congress MP K.K. Suresh said that the party along with India Block parties has given full support to the impeachment motion against the High Court Judge Yashwant Verma. Suresh said that the Congress has already provided 40 signatures in support of the proposal and is working closely with other opposition members to fulfill the required number. She said, “They are seeking signature of 40 members of the Congress party and we are giving them. More than 100 members have to submit letters with signatures and the Congress party is also signing them.”
