AIMPLB sought time to meet the President regarding the Waqf Bill.
The Waqf Amendment Bill has been passed by both the Houses of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. However, many Muslim organizations, including the opposition parties and the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), are constantly opposing the bill. On Friday, there have been demonstrations against the Waqf Bill in many big cities of the country. At the same time, now AIMPLB has sought an immediate meeting with India President Draupadi Murmu regarding the Waqf Amendment Act.
AIMPLB will express concern over the bill
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has sought an immediate meeting with President Draupadi Murmu to express his concern over the Waqf Amendment Bill passed by Parliament, before the President approves the bill. AIMPLB spokesperson Dr. S. QR Ilyas, while sharing the theme of the letter written by the board general secretary Maulana Fazlur Rahim Mujaddadi, wrote- “The amendment introduced by the Act includes significant changes that affect the administration and autonomy of the Waqf Institute, who have historically played a significant role in religious and charitable activities.”
What is the purpose of meeting?
The letter of All India Muslim Personal Law Board further states that our aim of meeting the President is to express our deeper concern about the recently passed Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Muslim community across the country. The board further said- “This Act is completely unconstitutional and an attack on Muslims of the country. We believe that the provisions of the Act need to be seriously reconsidered as they are inconsistent with the fundamental rights found under the Constitution of India, especially in relation to religious freedom, equality and safety of religious institutions.”
Demand for discussion on solutions
AIMPLB has requested President Murmu to give early appointment at a convenient time in view of the seriousness of the case to make them aware of the concerns and discuss possible solutions within the constitutional structure.
