The Calcutta High Court has ordered a three -member committee to identify and rehabilitate people displaced by the violence during the protest over the Waqf (Amendment) Act in Murshidabad district.
A division bench of Justice Samen Sen and Justice Raja Basu Chaudhary said that the interim order given on April 12 will continue to instructions on the deployment of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) in Murshidabad.
The court said that the three-member committee will consist of one officer each of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and West Bengal Human Rights Commission (WBHRC), besides Member Secretary of the State Legal Services Authority (SLSA).
The court said, “We consider it appropriate to set up a committee with three officers which will monitor and coordinate the situation.”
The High Court has directed the committee to identify the displaced persons, evaluate the damage done to the assets of the victims and collect the data of recorded elements.
The committee has also been ordered to facilitate the victims in registering FIRs and monitor the welfare of the displaced persons during the interval period.
The state administration was directed to provide all the necessary infrastructure to the committee so that it could comply with the directions of the court.
The court directed the committee and SIT (Special Investigation Team) constituted by the state government to file their report on the next hearing on 15 May.
