Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir protests in Washington: protesters raised "shame" slogans

Pakistan’s Army Chief General Asim Munir faced sharp opposition outside Washington DC’s Four Season Hotel during his US visit. A protestor, who is considered a supporter of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, accused Munir of human rights violations and dictatorship, “Shame! You are a killer!” Like shouting slogans. The incident was captured in the video and became increasingly viral on social media.

The protesters displayed slogans like “Asim Munir: Collective killer” and “when gun speaks, democracy die” on the digital board outside the hotel. The protesters attributed Munir to establish “military dictatorship in Pakistan”, especially for the arrest of Imran Khan’s jail and his party PTI supporters. Munir, recently promoted to the post of Field Marshall, was allegedly in Washington on the invitation of US St.com Commander General Michael Kurila, although the White House denied any military invitation.

The demonstration was organized by the US Chapter of PTI, who called for a nationwide demonstration against Munir. PTI alleged that Munir crushed democracy by implementing martial law and violated human rights. On social media, a user wrote, “Munir was exposed by Pakistanis in America. He is a dictator and traitor.”

The incident is even more in discussion after Indo-Pak tension, especially after the Pahalgam attack of April 2025 and the ‘Operation Sindoor’ of India. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused the Congress of spreading “Pakistani campaign”, while the White House described the news of Munir’s invitation as “false”. The incident highlights Pakistan’s internal instability and global eye on military leadership.
