Six bogies of the Jafar Express train derailed after a bomb blast near the railway track on Wednesday in Jacobabad district of Sindh province of Pakistan. This train was going from Quetta to Peshawar. The explosion occurred near the cattle market, causing a 3 -foot -wide pit on the track and the track of about 6 feet long. No casualties were reported. The Baloch Republican Guards claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming that the remote-controlled device was used.
After the explosion, the police surrounded the area and the bomb disposal squad investigated additional threats. The viral video on social media, including children and families, was seen getting safe and carrying goods safely. This is the second time the Jafar Express was targeted in recent months. In March 2025, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked the train in Balochistan’s Boluchistan, with 380 passengers. In that incident, the BLA claimed to kill more than 100 Pakistani soldiers, while the army spoke of the death of 35 hostages.
Pakistan Railways temporarily suspended train services, and investigation has started. Baloch Republican Guard spokesman Dostin Baloch said in a statement, “The Jafar Express is used by the Pakistani army for the movement of its personnel, and our attacks will be more serious in the future.” The attack reflects increasing instability in Balochistan and Sindh, where separatist groups often target infrastructure.
On 16 June, a railway employee was injured in a similar bomb blast between Mach and Gum in Balochistan. These incidents highlight the increasing insecurity of Pakistan’s transport network and the threat of terrorism in the region.
