smart transit card

Panaji: The new smart transit card of Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL), which provides discount on bus tickets and the facility of ‘cashless’ travel in Goa, has reduced the problems of bus passengers as well as bus conductors. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had recently introduced this e-card of public transport corporation KTCL. By using this smart card, passengers get 10% discount on fare in more than 1,000 buses operated by KTCL.

KTCL Divisional Traffic Officer Roque Lewis said that online application for this card can be made through a separately created website. He said the smart transit card is free but initially Rs 150 is charged which can be redeemed while using the card. Lewis said, “The amount deposited on the card can be used while traveling. It is basically a tapping card. Instead of paying cash, passengers have to tell the bus conductor that they have the card.”

The card is free for them

Lewis said that smart cards are being liked a lot by bus passengers. The reason for this is that passengers get 10 percent discount on bus fare by using the card and they do not need to carry cash to buy tickets. He said, “This card is completely free for senior citizens, students and disabled people. Students and senior citizens already get 50 per cent discount on travel in the state, so they will not get additional discount. However, general travelers will have to pay Rs. 10 per cent.” You will get a percentage discount.”

Now there is no need to buy tickets from the conductor

Rajendra Uttam Waigankar, who often travels by bus, said that now there is no need to carry cash or change to buy tickets from the conductor. “It is indeed a good initiative. However, the government should set up a help desk to assist those facing difficulties in online application,” he said. Girish Naik, another passenger, also said that now KTCL’s smart transit card has made fare payment very easy for passengers and bus conductors. He said that this initiative of the government will benefit daily commuters, senior citizens and students. (with language inputs)
