There is a big good news for the residents of Patna city. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary has announced in the Assembly that Patna Metro will start its journey on August 15. He made this announcement while presenting the second supplementary budget of Rs 32,506 crore for the current financial year.
Two main corridors have been planned in the initial phase of the Patna Metro project – North-South corridor and East-West corridor. These routes will serve high density areas of the city and ensure uninterrupted traffic in Patna. The north-south corridor will run from Patna Junction to Danapur area, while the east-west corridor will connect Patna Sahib area to the AIIMS campus.
The Assembly passed the second supplementary budget for the financial year 2023-24 by voice vote in the absence of opposition members. The opposition walked out of the House in protest against the allegations of irregularities in the implementation of the schemes of the Social Welfare Department.
Samrat Chaudhary said that the supplementary budget amount of Rs 32,506 crore will be used for effective implementation of various schemes of the Central and Bihar government in the state. He informed that this amount will be used to complete the first phase of Patna Metro project. Apart from this, this amount will also be used for several tourism projects, such as the development of ‘Tourist Hub’ in Kaimur district.
Responding to the debate on the supplementary demand, Social Welfare Minister Madan Sahni criticized the opposition parties, saying that the opposition parties are against the poor and socially marginalized communities of the society. He also informed that the state government has launched several welfare schemes focusing on the upliftment and protection of women, children, persons with disabilities, senior citizens and other disadvantaged groups.
