New Delhi. Today, during the hearing on the petitions challenging the legality of the Places of Worship Act-1991, the Supreme Court clearly said that no new case related to temple-mosque will be registered till the next hearing. This order has been given to maintain stability and peace at the disputed religious places. Along with this, the Supreme Court has sought a reply from the Central Government. The bench said that the case is pending in the Supreme Court, hence new cases should not be filed. No effective or final order should be passed by the lower courts in the cases which are already registered. Till the next hearing of this case, orders of any kind of survey should not be given in the disputed premises.

Vishwanathan’s bench upheld the Places of Worship Act-1991 (Places of Worship Act-1991) Heard the case related to. The court said that the next hearing will not take place without the response of the central government. With this the government was given 4 weeks time. The bench has asked all the parties to prepare their points so that the matter can be disposed of expeditiously. CJI Sanjeev Khanna said that a portal or some such system should be created where the answers of all the parties can be seen. On this, the Solicitor General suggested creating a Google Drive link.

This is why the legality of the Places of Worship Act-1991 was challenged

It is noteworthy that according to the ‘Places of Worship Act-1991’, the form of places of religious worship will remain the same as it was on August 15, 1947. This Act prohibits filing a suit for re-claiming any religious place by another community or for changing its original form. Opposing this, the petitioner has requested to repeal sections 2, 3 and 4 of the Places of Worship Act-1991.
