Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. His birthday is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti as well as International Day of Non-Violence. He led the fight to liberate India from British rule. The lesson taught by him of non-violent protest is still remembered with respect throughout the world.
Tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri
PM Modi also paid tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of India, on his birth anniversary. Paying tribute to Shastri, Modi said, “Respectful tribute to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri ji, who dedicated his life for the country’s soldiers, farmers and self-respect, on his birth anniversary.” Also paid tribute. At the same time, Shastri was the second Prime Minister of India. He was born on 2 October 1904 in Uttar Pradesh. People were impressed by his simplicity and humility. He gave the slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’ during the India-Pakistan war of 1965.
