New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his last ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program of the year 2024 remembered four legends of Indian cinema Raj Kapoor, Mohammed Rafi, Akkineni Nageswara Rao (ANR) and Tapan Sinha on their birth centenary. PM Modi said in his monthly radio program, “In the year 2024, we are celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of many great personalities of the film industry. These personalities gave recognition to Indian cinema at the global level. The lives of these celebrities are an inspiration for our entire film industry. Raj Kapoor ji introduced the world to India’s ‘soft power’ through films.”

Magic in Rafi Sahab’s voice

Remembering Mohammad Rafi, he said that Rafi Sahab’s voice had that magic which touched every heart. Modi said of Rafi, “His voice was amazing. Be it devotional songs or romantic songs or painful songs, he brought every emotion alive with his voice. His greatness as an artist can be gauged from the fact that even today the young generation listens to his songs with the same intensity. This is the identity of evergreen art.”

PM Modi praised ANR for taking Telugu cinema to “new heights” and said his films beautifully presented Indian traditions and values. The Prime Minister said in the program, “Tapan Sinha ji’s films gave a new vision to the society. His films contained the message of social consciousness and national unity.” The birth centenaries of Hindi film showman Kapoor and Rafi, one of the greatest playback singers of Indian cinema, were celebrated on December 14 and December 24 respectively. Akkineni Nageswara Rao was one of the most prominent figures in the Telugu film industry, starring in several landmark films in his career spanning seven decades. Rao’s 100th birth anniversary was celebrated on 20 September. Sinha’s birth anniversary, one of the leading Bengali cinema directors, was celebrated on October 2. (input language)
