Significantly, the black day of 13 April 1919, when people were performing peaceful protests against the Rowlt Act at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar. Meanwhile, British officer General Dyer ordered his soldiers to shoot at the crowd, killing hundreds of innocent people. The massacre shook the entire country and the incident became a reason to intensify the Indian independence movement.
