New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced that the Union Cabinet has accepted the recommendations made by the high-level committee on ‘One Nation, One Election’. He lauded former President Ram Nath Kovind for his leadership in taking the initiative forward and said the move is an important step towards making the country’s democracy even more vibrant and participatory.

Recommendations of the High Level Committee
It is noteworthy that the committee’s report was made a part of the 100-day agenda of the Law Ministry. As a first step, the committee has recommended holding simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. After this, it has been proposed to hold local body elections within 100 days. Also, the committee has suggested forming an ‘implementation group’ for the implementation of the recommendations.
Cabinet accepts ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday formally accepted the ‘One Nation, One Election’ recommendations presented by a committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind. The committee had submitted its report in March, in which it was said to discuss it before the announcement of Lok Sabha elections. After this decision, discussions have intensified in political circles, and reactions of various parties are coming to the fore.
