Prime Minister Narendra Modi denied the claims of US President Donald Trump over Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, saying no world leader asked India to stop military action against Pakistan. He clarified that India took action freely for its sovereignty and security. The statement came in the Lok Sabha on 29 July 2025 during a special discussion on Operation Sindoor, which was started in April 2025 in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
26 civilians were killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April. In response, India started Operation Sindoor on 7 May, in which accurate attacks were carried out on terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said that the operation was completed in 22 minutes, in which nine terrorist bases were destroyed and more than 100 terrorists were killed. He insisted that the operation was not stopped under any external pressure, but was stopped after fulfilling India’s political and military objectives.
Modi said, “Pakistan now knows that India’s reply is more tough than ever.” Taking a dig at the opposition, he said that some leaders are trying to convert the moments of national pride into joke. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also denied Trump’s claims, in which he said that he had a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Jaishankar clarified that there was no talks between PM Modi and Trump from 22 April to 17 June, and the ceasefire took direct contact between the military directors (DGMO) of both countries, which was initiated by Pakistan.
The opposition questioned the government on the security lapse in the Pahalgam attack and the alleged aircraft loss during the operation. Rahul Gandhi challenged the PM to call Trump “false”, while the Congress questioned the strategy and time of the operation. The government dismissed these claims and said that Operation Sindoor strengthened India’s zero tolerance policy towards terrorism.
