Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation on the occasion of National Space Day on Saturday, announced that India is working towards building its own space station.
Referring to the success of the space mission of Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, PM Modi said that the country will soon prepare its astronaut pool. He appealed to the youth to join this initiative.
Modi said, “Today India is progressing rapidly in state-of-the-art techniques such as semi-revoogenic engines and electric propulsion. Very soon, with the hard work of all scientists, India will fill new flight in space with Gaganyaan and India will also have its own space station in the coming time.”
This year the theme of National Space Day is ‘Gaganyaan from Aryabhata: from ancient knowledge to infinite possibilities.’
PM Modi said, “I met Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla just 3 days ago. He raised the pride of every Indian by hoisting the tricolor at the International Space Station. When he was showing me the tricolor, that moment is beyond the words.”
He further said, “In a conversation with Group Captain Shubhanshu, I have the courage of the youth of new India and their infinite dreams. We are going to prepare an astronaut pool of India to pursue these dreams. Today, on Space Day, I appeal to my young comrades to join this pool and give wings to India.”
Significantly, in the memory of this achievement, the Government of India has declared August 23 as ‘National Space Day’.
