New Delhi. Amidst the increasing tension and worsening situation in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on telephone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. During this conversation, PM Modi stressed the need for peace and stability in the region and said that India is fully committed to help establish peace in the region.
After the conversation, Prime Minister Modi wrote on his social media platform ‘X’, “Terrorism has no place in our world. It is essential that we prevent further escalation of regional tensions and ensure the safe release of all hostages. India is ready to provide all possible assistance in efforts for peace and stability.”
India’s balanced diplomacy
India has been closely monitoring the situation in West Asia for a long time and has maintained dialogue with both sides keeping in mind its long-term interests. Recently, during his visit to America, Prime Minister Modi also met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, which makes it clear that India is trying to maintain regional balance.
Impact on Indian citizens and oil supplies
More than 10 million Indian citizens live in West Asian countries, and instability there can create serious problems for Indian citizens. Many times in the past too, India has had to run special operations to evacuate Indian citizens from this area. Additionally, India imports 60 percent of its oil needs from West Asia, and instability there could also put pressure on oil prices.
India’s role for regional peace
India has always supported peacekeeping and regional stability in West Asia. It is also clearly reflected in the conversation between PM Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu that India is continuously working to bring peace and stability in the region through its diplomatic efforts.
