Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a grand event held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh on the occasion of 11th International Yoga Day on Saturday, 21 June 2025. Under this year’s theme ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’, about 3 lakh people participated in the collective yoga session in a 26 -km coastal area from Ramakrishna Beach to Bhogapuram. PM Modi described yoga as “the path of peace between global unrest and stress”.
He said, “Today the world is struggling with stress, disturbance and instability. At such a time Yoga shows us the path of peace. It is a pose button for humanity, which gives us balance and perfection.” He described yoga as a practice that connects everyone beyond age, background and physical ability. “I am proud that our Divyang Mitra reads Yoga Shastra in Braille, perform yoga in scientific space, and youth in villages participate in the Yoga Olympiad,” they added.
Under the ‘Yoga Sangam’ initiative, collective yoga sessions were held at more than 1 lakh places across the country, in which more than 2 crore people participated. The Andhra Pradesh government tried for the Guinness World Record and distributed 50 lakh yoga certificates. 25,000 tribal children at Andhra University performed 108 Surya Namaskar in 108 minutes.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan and Governor S.K. Abdul Nazir also attended the event. Extensive preparations were made with the deployment of 3,000 buses, 1,200 CCTV cameras and 10,000 policemen in the event.
PM Modi proposed the establishment of Yoga Day in the United Nations in 2014, which got the support of 175 countries. He said, “Yoga is not only personal discipline, but it leads us to ‘Main Se Hum’, which awakens the sense of unity with the world.”
