Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jagreb, the capital of Croatia on Wednesday, which is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to this middle and south-eastern European country. The tour is the final stage of his journey to three countries, including the G7 Summit in Cyprus and Canada. Modi was warmly welcomed by Croatia’s Foreign and European Affairs Deputy Minister Ivan Sikavika at Jagreb Airport warmly.
Modi will hold bilateral talks with Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrez Plankovic and President Joran Milanovich, which will emphasize trade, defense, science, and cultural cooperation. Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal wrote on X, “The tour will strengthen the historical relations between India and Croatia, which are based on shared values and democratic principles.” Croatia, a member of the European Union and NATO, is strategically important for India.
Several agreements are expected to be signed during the tour, including defense cooperation and digital innovation. Before leaving, Modi said, “I am eager to deepen my relations with Croatia, which has been a strong partner since his independence in 1991.” The tour underlines India’s Act East policy and increasing cooperation with Europe.
