New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed happiness over the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament. He said that this step is an important moment towards the collective effort of socio-economic justice, transparency and inclusive development. The Prime Minister said that this will be especially helpful for those who have been marginalized for a long time, who have been deprived of both voice and opportunity. Modi said in a post on the social media forum ‘X’ that the Waqf system has become synonymous with transparency and lack of accountability for decades, especially damaging the interests of Muslim women, poor Muslims and Pasmanda Muslims.
New laws will promote transparency
He said, “The passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and the Muslim Waqf (Relations) Bill in both houses of Parliament is an important moment towards the collective effort of socio-economic justice, transparency and inclusive development.” He said that the law passed from Parliament will promote transparency and also protect people’s rights.
Building strong, more inclusive India
He said, “We are committed to prioritizing the dignity of every citizen. Similarly, we can also build a strong, more inclusive India. ”The Prime Minister thanked all the members of Parliament who participated in the discussions of the Parliamentary and Committee, expressed their perspectives and contributed to strengthening these laws. He also expressed special gratitude to countless people who sent valuable suggestions to the Parliamentary Committee. He said, “Once again, the importance of comprehensive debate and dialogue has been proved.”
Discussion lasted till two o’clock in the night
The Rajya Sabha approved the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2025 by 128 votes as compared to 95 after a long discussion. Regarding this bill, the government claimed that due to this, there will be a lot of help in bringing Sudhahar in the condition of poor and Pasmanda Muslims of the country and women of this community. Along with this, Parliament approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Muslim Waqf (Relations) Bill, 2024. The Lok Sabha passed them at around 2 pm on Wednesday.
Discussion over thirteen hours
The Upper House rejected several amendments brought by the opposition. Responding to the discussion on the bill for more than thirteen hours, Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that in 2006, 4.9 lakh Waqf assets were in the country and the total income from them was only Rs 163 crore, while the income increased by just three crore rupees even after changing in 2013. He said that today there are a total of 8.72 lakh Waqf assets in the country. He said that the bill has a provision for Mutavalli, its administration and monitoring on it. Rijiju said, “In any way the government does not manage the Waqf property and does not interfere in it.” He said that through this bill, there will be no intervention of anyone other than Muslims in Waqf cases and whatever misconceptions are being spread about it, they are baseless.
