On the occasion of Constitution Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address in the Supreme Court said, this 75th year of the Constitution of India is a matter of immense pride for the entire country. At a time when we are celebrating this important festival of democracy, we cannot forget that today is also the anniversary of the terrorist attack in Mumbai. I pay my tribute to those who lost their lives in this attack. I reiterate the country’s resolve that every terrorist organization challenging India’s security will be given a befitting reply. Modi said that due to the powers given in the Constitution, Constitution Day has been celebrated for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir today.

PM said, during the long debate of the Constituent Assembly, there were serious discussions on the democratic future of India. You all are well aware of that debate. At that time Baba Saheb Ambedkar had said that ‘The Constitution is not just a document of lawyers, its soul is always the soul of the era.’ The feeling that Baba Saheb used to talk about is very important. The makers of our Constitution have given us this provision so that we can interpret the Constitution from time to time by taking appropriate decisions according to the country, time and situation.
