Police on Sunday seized 1.22 kg of heroin worth Rs 6.22 crore in Assam’s Kachar district and arrested two people.
Senior Superintendent of Police Numal Mahta of Kachar district said that on Saturday (19 July), on the basis of reliable intelligence, the Kachar police conducted a special campaign against illegal transport of drugs in Saptagram area under the jurisdiction of Dholai police station and stopped a vehicle.
Numal Mahatta said, “The vehicle was coming from Churachandpur in Manipur and the police team arrested two persons, whose names are Michael Lermrut in Churachandpur and Michael Lermrut of Churachandpur in Manipur, Merina Nitinafal, wife of Michael Lermrut. During the in -depth search, the police team weighed about 1.22 kg hidden in the vehicle, the police team weighs about 1.22 kg hidden in the vehicle. The filled 99 soap cans recovered.
The senior police officer further stated that the recovered drug was seized in the presence of independent witnesses.
Namal Mahatta said, “During the investigation conducted at the scene, the heroin was confirmed in the drug detection kit. Initial investigation revealed that the drug was introduced illegally from Churachandpur in Manipur. Further investigation of the case is going on.”
Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appreciated the Assam Police on July 18 for arresting a person, from which 30,000 Yaba bullets worth Rs 6 crore were recovered.
