New Delhi. The political atmosphere has heated up on the birth anniversary of Jananayak Jaiprakash Narayan in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and his supporters protested on the occasion. Akhilesh Yadav garlanded JP’s statue outside his house, while SP workers demonstrated vigorously. Meanwhile, two Joint CP level IPS officers reached Akhilesh’s house to meet him. JP’s statue was brought in a car outside Akhilesh Yadav’s house and Akhilesh garlanded it. Yadav remained adamant on going to JPNIC, but due to security reasons he was not allowed to go there. A huge crowd of workers gathered outside Akhilesh’s house in Lucknow and the police put up barricades. After this Akhilesh garlanded him outside his house.
“The government wants to stop our tribute”
After garlanding, Akhilesh Yadav said, “We celebrate the birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan every year, but today the government is stopping us. Why garlanding is being stopped is beyond understanding. BJP government is stopping every good work. Even if we are standing on the road paying tribute to JP, the government is trying to stop us.”

Government accused of conspiracy
Accusing the government, Akhilesh Yadav said, “The building built in the name of Jayaprakash Narayan has been covered because the government wants to sell it. This is the same government which is selling the museums, so what else can be expected from them. Samajwadi Party has been celebrating JP’s birth anniversary every year and will continue to celebrate in future also. We will go there and pay respect to Bharat Ratna Jayaprakash Narayan.”
Nitish Kumar advised to withdraw support from BJP
Akhilesh Yadav also advised Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to withdraw support from BJP. He said, “Nitish Kumar has emerged from the JP movement, and today when socialists are not being allowed to pay tribute to JP on his birth anniversary, it is high time that Nitish Kumar withdraws support from BJP.”
“Last time too I had to jump the gate and offer garlands.”
SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav said that last year also he had to jump the gate and garland the statue of JP and this time too the administration has surrounded the entire house. He described this action of the administration as an example of ‘contagious mentality’ and termed it as ‘lousy’.

UP government’s counterattack: “SP has habit of riots and disturbances”
UP government minister Jaiveer Singh, while targeting Akhilesh Yadav and SP workers, said that SP has a habit of riots and disturbances. He said, “LDA has sealed JPNIC due to security reasons. SP is trying to go there forcibly. Last year too, Akhilesh and his supporters had damaged the building by jumping over the wall.” The minister said, “JPNIC was constructed during the tenure of Akhilesh Yadav and after 2017 no work was done there. If there is an allegation of corruption, it could have happened during his tenure.” Jaiveer Singh also said that tribute can be paid from anywhere and it is not necessary to pay respect only in a closed building.
“The people of the Bharatiya Janata Party have not made any contribution to the freedom movement.”
