Grap-2 implemented in Delhi due to pollution.

Due to increasing pollution in Delhi, Stage 2 of GRAP was implemented. CAQM issues order when AQI level is above 300. After implementation of GRAP 2, diesel-powered generators have been banned in Delhi NCR. This order will come into effect from 8 am on October 22. The Air Quality Management Commission has issued these orders in view of the increasing pollution in NCR and surrounding areas.

Air Quality Management Commission has issued an order to implement GRAP-2 in Delhi NCR and has also given several guidelines.

1. Carry out mechanical/vacuum sweeping and water spraying on the identified roads on daily basis.

2. Watering roads with use of dust barriers (at least every other day, during non-peak hours) to prevent road dust in heavy traffic corridors, sensitive areas and proper disposal of collected dust at designated landfill sites. Make sure to spray.
3. Intensify inspections to strictly enforce dust control measures at C and D sites.
4. Focused and targeted action should be ensured to reduce air pollution in all identified hotspots in NCR. Intensify remedial measures for key areas contributing to adverse air quality in each such hotspot.
5. Ensure uninterrupted power supply to minimize the use of alternate power generation sets/equipment (DG sets etc.).
6. Strictly enforce the schedule for regulated operation of DG sets in all areas including industrial, commercial, residential etc. in NCR as per Instruction No. 76 dated 29.09.2023.
7. Synchronize traffic operations and deploy adequate personnel at intersections/traffic congestion points for smooth flow of traffic.
8. Give alerts in newspapers/TV/radio to advise people about do’s and don’ts to reduce air pollution levels and polluting activities.
9. Increase parking charges for vehicles to reduce private transportation.
10. CNG/electric bus and metro services should be increased by adding additional fleet.
11. To avoid open burning of bio-mass/MSW during winters, Resident Welfare Associations will necessarily provide electric heaters to the security staff.

GRAPE 2

The notice issued appeals to the citizens to come forward and assist them in maintaining and improving the air quality in the Delhi NCR region.

People should use public transport and minimize the use of private vehicles. Use technology, choose the less crowded route, even if a little longer. Change the air filter in your automobile regularly at the recommended intervals. Avoid dust-producing construction activities during the months of October to January. Avoid open burning of solid waste and biomass.
