New Delhi. There is tremendous pollution in the country’s capital Delhi and surrounding cities. Due to this pollution, even schools, colleges and universities are running online classes. Air quality index i.e. AQI 422 was measured in Delhi on Wednesday. This is less than Tuesday, but still severe pollution still persists in and around Delhi. In such a situation, the Delhi government has decided that 50 percent of its employees will work from home till further orders. A meeting is going to be held with Delhi government officials this afternoon to decide everything in this regard. Delhi Minister Gopal Rai had said on Tuesday that the idea of implementing the odd-even system of vehicles in the capital is also being considered.
AQI had gone above 500 in 15 areas in Delhi on Tuesday. At the same time, there were reports of stubble burning at hundreds of places in Punjab and UP. After this, Minister Gopal Rai had told the media that he has once again written a letter to the Union Environment Minister for artificial rain in Delhi. Delhi government says that earlier too a letter has been written to the central government for artificial rain. Gopal Rai has also requested PM Narendra Modi to intervene, so that the people of Delhi can be saved from the danger posed by severe pollution. Like every year in Delhi, this year too pollution is continuously increasing since the onset of winter. Burning of stubble by the farmers of Punjab, Haryana and Western UP and the arrival of diesel vehicles from other states in Delhi causes maximum pollution.
The issue of Delhi’s pollution also resonates in the Supreme Court every time. This time too, the Supreme Court has given several instructions after hearing the pollution issue in and around Delhi. The Supreme Court has even said that steps should be taken to ban fireworks in Delhi throughout the year. However, it is not yet decided how much the burning of fireworks is responsible for the pollution in and around Delhi. Many days have passed since Diwali this year, but despite this, the situation of severe pollution still persists. Now everyone hopes that there will be strong winds and rain. So that people can be protected from pollution.
